Supercom Text Telephone

About This Phone

Made in 199 by Ultratec, the Supercom telephone used a modem to help those with hearing problems communicating using the telephone. The telephone handset was placed on top of the Supercom unit. The user then typed their message using the keyboard, and the modem converted this into a stream of electronic tones. These were then picked up by the telephone handset and transmitted to the person at the other end of the line. Messages received would be displayed as text on a small screen at the front of the machine.
