British Western Electric tapered shaft "golf ball" desk stand

This is the British version of the Western Electric number 10 tapered shaft. It is called the British "golf ball" because of the big ball at the top of the shaft. This candlestick was introduced about 1905 and it was used with the centrla battery exchanges around Great Britain. The transmitter is a Western Electric made solid-back type designed by A.C. White of the U.S. Bell provided strategic parts to build British telephones but the end result was always unique. This one has an unmarked beveled transmitter and British outside terminal receiver.
