About This Phone
In 1962, Christo wrapped a pre-production, field trial model of Ericsson’s latest greatest phone, the Dialog. This was one of his earliest "wrapped objects.” During this period, he was living in Paris and began wrapping everyday domestic items—magazines, bottles, chairs, and even a Volkswagen Beetle—to explore the "hidden" nature of familiar objects. While his most famous "Wrapped Telephone" collaboration with the L.M. Ericsson company didn't happen until 1985, his original 1962 sculptural work—titled simply Wrapped Telephone—used the then-brand-new Dialog model.
