S. H. Couch launched during and participated in the turn of the century Independent Telephone Movement which ensued after the expiration of the foundational Bell telephone patents in 1894. The company specialized in electrical devices including telephones, intercoms, and fire alarm systems. S. H. About This Phone
Beautiful, rare Couch & Seeley No. 97 potbelly desk set with a marked transmitter and marked outside terminal long pole receiver. This looks almost identical to the Whitman & Couch potbelly except for the switch hook and the thumb screws. Both telephone manufacturers used the same plant and telephone parts to assemble their phones. Please see the original ads from an 1899 Telephone Magazine and others, and a letterhead from a bill sent in September, 1900, all of which show this candlestick. This telephone is in near perfect condition for its age and completely original.
