About This Phone

This model is often referred to as a "Compact Wall Phone." The sleek, black Art Deco aesthetic and the offset Strowger dial (to the right of the handset) are hallmarks of that era's industrial design. Because this dial is marked P-A-X, this specific unit was likely used as part of an internal business or industrial telephone system rather than a standard residential line. These systems allowed employees within a large building or factory to dial each other directly without needing a human operator—a cutting-edge feature in the 1930s and 40s.
