About This Phone

While based on British Ericsson designs, this phone was primarily manufactured by Amalgamated Wireless (Australasia) Ltd. (AWA) or Standard Telephones and Cables (STC) for the Australian Postmaster-General's Department (PMG). Introduced in 1939; The phone features a distinctive "fold-down" front, where the Bakelite case is hinged at the bottom to allow technicians easy access to the internal bells and wiring.
