About The Model 100-Type

The 100-Type series was the first mass-produced Western Electric phone which combined the receiver and mouthpiece into one handset unit. It was also the first to have a sidetone circuit (meaning you could hear your own voice loudly in the receiver). There were two main physical base designs used for this series: The "B Type" mounting, characterized by a round base, and the "D Type," with an oval base (introduced later... the round base was probe to tipping). There was also the C-type, or space saver, designed to be mounted on the side of a desk or a wall.
